Chicken Fried Steak Recipe

You will not believe how easy and tasty this Chicken Fried Steak was! This is absolutely a great version for Chicken, my family and I we all thought it was fantastic.

This was a great, light version of an old favorite. I did add some oil in the pan to keep the crackers from burning. And the cream gravy was very salty — next time, I’ll be sure to get the low-sodium base.

Prep time 10 mins
Cook time 7 mins
Total time 17 mins
Serves: 2
  • ¾ pound round steak, cut into 2 pieces
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • ½ cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ sleeve Saltine crackers, crushed to make about 2 cups of crumbs
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil or bacon grease or a combination, for frying
1. Sprinkle the steaks with salt and pepper. Dredge steaks in flour, shaking off any excess; dip each steak in egg substitute, then toss in cracker crumbs. Lightly coat steaks on each side with cooking spray.
2. Over medium heat, cook steaks in a hot nonstick skillet, about 3 to 4 minutes one side then turn to cook another side, until you cut into it and it’s just barely pink in the middle. Keep warm in a 225° oven while you cook the rest. Serve with Cream Gravy.
