Apple Butter Recipe

This is really a super easy and great Apple Butter recipe. The recipe makes about 4 pints of apple butter and freezes great!
TOTAL TIME: Prep: 20 min. Cook: 11 hours
MAKES: 64 servings


  • 5-1/2 pounds apples, peeled and finely chopped
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt


  1. Place apples in a slow cooker. In a medium bowl, mix sugar, cinnamon, cloves and salt; sprinkle over apples and stir to combine. Cover and cook on high for 1 hour.
  2. Reduce heat to low; cook for 9-11 hours or until thickened and dark brown, stirring occasionally (stir more frequently as it thickens to prevent sticking at the bottom).
  3. Uncover and cook on low 1 hour longer. If desired, stir with a wire whisk until completely smooth. Allow to cool. Spoon into jars, cover and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks, or freeze up to 2 months.
